Questions people ask first
Can I send a book by post?
Yes. Wrap it so it cannot move, send it insured, and include a note with your contact details and what you would like done. We will confirm arrival the same day and send an estimate before starting.
How much does a simple reback cost?
Cloth rebacks start at $160; leather rebacks at $320, depending on the size of the book and the condition of the boards. The estimate is written and fixed unless the book turns out to need more than we could see.
Can you match the original colour?
We match as closely as the leather allows. Dyed goatskin is never an exact match to a hundred-year-old calf, and we would rather tell you that than promise a perfect result. Samples are shown before the cover is cut.
Do you buy old books?
No. We repair books, we do not trade in them. A good antiquarian bookseller will be able to help you value a collection — we are happy to point you towards one.
Is the workshop accessible?
The bindery is up six steps at the back of the mill, and the doorway is narrow. If stairs are a problem, call ahead — we can meet you at the door and bring the book down to the office instead.
